How to become a member

Becoming a member of the club is easy!

If you are new to lapidary, then prior to signing up and paying your member fees, we offer the opportunity for you to determine whether or not lapidary is for you, by providing you with guidance and support to make a few cabochons in our workshop.

Workshop session fees will apply ($5).  We provide you the opportunity to make up to 3 cabochons in this manner.  After that you may opt to join the club.

Book in for your membership trial using our online booking system below:

  • Joining fee applies to the 1st new adult member only.

Membership Terms & Conditions

I hereby apply for Membership of the Redcliffe Peninsula Lapidary Club Inc. Trading as Redcliffe Gem Club.

I understand by submitting this document that I agree to the Rules, Policies & Constitution of the Redcliffe Gem Club.

I have read and understood all relevant information including

WORKSHOP RULES, PROCEDURES & GENERAL SAFETY REGULATIONS.

I fully understand the Club requirements and accept all responsibility.

GENERAL SAFETY REGULATIONS

THESE REGULATIONS HAVE BEEN DESIGNED TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF ALL MEMBERS AND MUST BE FOLLOWED. REMEMBER YOUR SAFETY IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY,

  1. Familiarise yourself with the evacuation procedures posted about the club and follow the duty officer/fire warden's instructions in the event of a fire etc.

  2. Footwear that encloses the feet must be worn - Thongs, open toed or open heeled sandals are not permitted in the work areas.

  3. Loose clothing, jewellery items etc should not be worn as they may get caught in moving machinery and could cause serious injury to the wearer.

  4. Long hair should be tied back or enclosed in a net whilst working with machinery or other hazardous equipment.

  5. Eye protection must be worn during cutting, grinding and sanding or as directed by an Instructor. (See individual instructions for Saws, Grinders, Sanders and Polishers).

  6. Masks must be worn and care taken when handling silicon based investment powder used in casting. Any spillage is to be immediately mopped up with a wet mop or cloth.

  7. Any damage to machines, tools or electrical equipment is to be reported IMMEDIATELY to the Duty Officer or Instructor, who will take the appropriate action to rectify.

  8. Any accident requiring treatment is to be reported immediately to the Duty Officer or Instructor.  The incident, along with time, date and details of injury and treatment administered is to be recorded in the ACCIDENT BOOK, which is kept in the First Aid Kit located in the workshop.

WHAT IS ONE OF THE MOST COMMON CAUSES OF INJURY AND ACCIDENTS IN A WORKSHOP? Answer: COMPLACENCY.

One of the biggest issues in safety is complacency. You become used to doing something in the same manner and nothing has happened so far. Just because you have not had an injury does not mean that nothing will happen.

AVOID COMPLACENCY.

By submitting this form I agree that I have read and understand the regulations outlined above and agree to abide by them.
